Today, my sweet Carson, you decided you'd had enough of the highchair business. It's funny...when you were an itty bitty newborn, you LOVED to be confined and swaddled up tight...
But mostly nowadays (aside from loving to cuddle) you really try to escape any confining situation. You're quickly figuring out how to unsnap your carseat buckles and I'm pretty much baffled as to what to do about this! You attempt to stand in buggies at stores, even with straps on. You've long ago decided you could climb out of your crib. You can get on and off, up and down, in and out of pretty much anything now! So, our highchair is no longer safe nor do you think you're baby enough for it. You even refused your bib this evening at dinner! You sat like a perfect little big girl and ate your chicken stir fry tonight. You drank from a big girl cup with no spills, you ate nearly every bite from a fork and you pointed to each character on your Sesame Street placement and named them by name...Bird, Ernie, Ernie (You also called Bert by Ernie's name!), Grober (Grover), Count, Cooookieeeee!, Zoeeeee, Elmo, Okar (Oscar), and 'Ta (Rosita). You held hands around the table for the blessing and said your traditional " 'men! (Amen) Yay!" afterward. (You also say " 'men! Yay!" after your prayers at night.) Here you are perched upon your new dinner spot. You are SUCH a big girl. :( & :)
Today, you also discovered bubble wrap. We've long since known you LOVE to pop things. You pop bubbles in the air, you pop milk bubbles in your cuppy, you pretend to pop the bubbles on our computer screen savers. You love your "pop pop" push toy. You like to pop our gum bubbles. You LOVVVEEEE popping. Bubble wrap is no different. We got a package today with the Holy Grail of bubble wrap...the BIG JUMBO BUBBLES. I showed you how to step on them to get them to pop. I thought there might be a chance you'd get scared of them. Uhhhhhhmmmmm.........NO you were not. You "step step pop pop" 'd alllllll day long! :) It was so much fun! Alas, I did not get a picture today. But I saved plenty of bubble wrap for more fun tomorrow and I promise to get a picture!
And here is how our big girl is getting to things that were previously safe from her curious grasp...
Pretty much NOTHING is safe anymore! You will drag up a chair or a stool or a stuffed animal or a toy to anything your little almost-two-year-old heart desires and climb up and get it. Kitchen counters, washer/dryer in the laundry room, ANYthing in your bedroom and Mama & Daddy's room, ANYthing in the bathroom because you use the potty to climb up on....For now, the top of the fridge and the mantel are pretty much the only safe places in the house. We are under a brand new mode of supervision now. You have to be constantly watched like a hawk or you'll be into something in no time flat. You are so curious and so smart!
Now, your Daddy is responsible for the next big girl milestone tonight. Any girl ever born knows how to wrap a towel around them after a shower or bath and tuck in the corner under the arm to get it to stay in place as you walk around. Guess who came out of the bathroom after her bath this evening wrapped up JUST like a big girl (only in one of the guest bath hand towels)???? Again, no picture :( BUT just take my word that you were the cutest little big girl I ever did see with that hand towel tucked under your arm!
Just a few more big girl things you can do now at nearly 20 months old. I don't want to forget them, so I've got to get them down in writing quick! You can...
~ Count from 1 to 12 unprompted.
~ Fill in the ABC's if we stop at nearly any letter. You'll give us the next letter.
~ Sing the following songs nearly word for word...Patty Cake (Long and Short Versions), Itsy Bitsy, Jesus Loves Me (Chorus), The Barney Song, How Much is That Doggy in the Window
~ You also play along with hand motions to all those songs and more...Head and Shoulders, If You're Happy and You Know It (This is your favorite!) & Ring Around the Rosie
~ If we say, "I Love..........." You'll finish with "Dada!" or "Mama!" or pretty much anyone who is asking the question :) Smart chicky.
~ You can name more animals than I can list. Not only can you name them, you can make their sound and movements. Your favorite is a frog. You'll "hop" and say VERY deeply, "rrrrrrribbit!"
~ You LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE puppy dogs. If we got you a real live one, I'm absolutely positive we'd never have to get you another gift ever, you'd be so in love. You have many stuffed dogs and you just adore them. You sing to them, you feed them, you rock them.... You must get this completely from your Dada.
~ Although...you DO love your kitty Jacie! You love to "meow" with her and pat and kiss her. You are very gentle with her and you say, "uh oh!" when she runs from you. Lately, you've been getting very upset when she is under the bed and won't come out. You focus on nothing else but getting her out.
~ Today, you brought a baby doll to me and held her out and said, "Baby sad!" You poked out your lip and made sniffle noises.
~ You go to bed at night with random "lovies"....You attach to them only at bedtime and falling asleep time. They are always different and you don't stay attached to them. Tonight, you are sleeping with a dental mirror and a gum massager. They are gripped very tightly in your little hands. When I attempt to take them you say things like, "Tarson! Tarson!" (This is how you say your name now!) or "Me! Me!"
~ You say, "No way!" when we tell you no-no or not to do something. You also say it randomly to the cat.
~ Today, you brought me one of your pop up books you'd found that needs to be repaired because you ripped it. It happens to be an Elmo book. You said, "Elmo boke." (Boke = Broke)
~ I posted this on my Facebook status today also...You woke me up at 6 a.m. on a summer day and said, "Mama, colla! Colla! Peeees!" (Mama, color! Color! Please!)
~ You randomly ask to write throughout the day and instead of waiting on US to bring your supplies (you require one sheet of white computer paper and a pen or pencil), you now take it upon yourself to climb the chair by the computer desk, get your paper and then you climb on TOP of the computer table itself to reach the pen holder way near the back. That pen holder has now had to be relocated.
~ You are creating fake "Bo Bo's" or "Owwww's". You'll say, "Owwww!" or "Bo Bo!" and I'll ask where. You'll give me a random body part to kiss and then you repeat with a new area. Stinker :)
~ Today, when Daddy left for work you said, "Bye bye Dada!" Your baby self would normally have just said "bye"... :)
~ This morning while I was cooking your breakfast, you stood next to the dryer and told me, "Warm!" You sat down next to it and stayed there until I called you for breakfast.
~ You now request certain beverages or foods for snacks and meals. The other day, in the middle of lunch, you said, "Pickle!" You also tell me "milk", "juice" or "water" at nearly every meal. It's pretty much different every time and you'll only drink the one you requested. If I'm serving something else, you'll refuse it.
~ You're very into playing Simon Says at meal times. We do this in order for you to eat a few more bites of all the food groups on your plate. BUT you'll pretty much only do this for your Daddy for some crazy reason.
~ You love Twizzlers. You requested one by its name tonight.
~ You've started randomly asking for ice cream in the middle of meals and for breakfast. WHAT?! You don't really even like it all that much, but you certainly ask for it!
~ Every time you see fire or a candle, you start blowing air and saying "birthday".
~ You love to give "leg hugs" when I'm in the kitchen working or cooking. I LOVE those!
~ You attempt very hard to operate the water dispenser on the fridge. You CAN get the water out, but it never lands in the cup you are holding up. It splatters all over you and the floor, but you keep trying!
~ We were in Lowe's a couple of days ago and when we went down the bathroom fixture aisle you called, "Potttyyyyyyyyyyy!" to the potties hanging on the shelves.
~ You are VERY into smelling flowers. You like to share flower smelling with us and with anyone around us. I gave you a fake flower today in Hobby Lobby and you held it out for one of the cashiers to smell.
~ When you toot, you'll say, "toot!" and wrinkle your nose. When OTHER people toot, you do the same thing. I foresee public embarrassment down the line with this one at some point in the near future.
~ Whenever your Daddy comes home and enters the room you're in, you say "Dada!!!!!!!!" and light up. He feels a lot like Norm on Cheers.
~ Whenever you see a child, big or small, anywhere at all you'll say, "Baby!" Even if they look to be nine or ten years old....you say "baby!" I guess you just notice little people and that's your one word for them all. LOL!
~ You find elephants EVERYwhere we go....and you won't stop saying "Ephant, ephant!" until I find it and you get to look at it again. I'd say elephants are second only to puppies in your world.
~ Today, you would not let me put your shorts on you. YOU wanted to do it. When you couldn't get it right, you asked, "Help!" You frequently ask for help like this whenever you need it.
~ Sometimes when you get in a situation you can't get out of, you huff and say, "Stuck!"
~ You are starting to notice smells around you and will voice your opinion. You'll crinkle up your nose and if you think it smells good, you'll just sniff sniff sniff. If you think it stinks, you'll either say "Stink!" or "Peeeewwwwweeee!"
~ Instead of requesting Blue's Clues, you now refer to the show sometimes as "Steve". I think your father is concerned that you're crushin' on Steve :)
~ You randomly come up and tickle us and say, "tickytickyticky" when the mood strikes you. You also randomly tickle the cat and your stuffed animals/babies.
I could write lists like this every day. Sometimes I get very sad that I can't remember all these little moments of your days, all these little ways you learn, grow and change. It goes by sooooo very fast. I'm glad I can at least capture lists like this every now and again to look back on. Carson, Mama treasures each and every second with you. Every day you amaze me, make me laugh, make me tear up with joy, make me stand in wonder. You are absolutely the best thing that ever happened to us. We love you!!! Now...slow down this growing and changing business! ;)
